April 14, 2011

Good day today but a worrisome ending. Drove both horses over to Gaye's. Started with K.D. Saddled her up and borrowed a CC headstall that nicely fit her refined head. We went to the round pen and did lots of circles. Bumped up to a trot working on softening her trot with collection. Eventually, we got to a great point. Meanwhile, Gaye and Peg warmed up their horses so we headed to the woods. K.D. did great. The biggest problem was Quiz who got left behind. The 2 pasture buddies did a lot of calling back and forth. The only "spook" was leaving the woods where K.D. spied 2 white mailboxes that resembled giant polar bears with huge claws!

When we returned, I turned the horses out. I saw them running the pasture several times and even went out to see what was causing them to stop grazing. But later on we discovered her scraped over her head, chest, and all 4 legs. After both Randy and I walked the entire fence row, we found not a speck of hair. The source of all those scrapes remains a mystery.

April 12~1st real ride

Today I trailered both Quiz and K.D. to a friend's barn to get spring shots. K.D. handled the situation like a pro. Lil Joe fell in love with her, and it was very obvious that she is cycling. Afterwards, I saddled her up and rode her in the round pen with only a rope halter. She did great even going over the obstacles. We trotted several circles. We made the best of the small amount of time we had.

Drove the horses over to Lamar's to get trimmed and also shoes on Quiz. For being K.D.'s first experience having her hooves trimmed in a strange environment, she did a great job. Lamar was very patient with her, although there was no major (or even minor) incident.

Arrival Day!

K.D. arrived in IL from Bardstown, KY on January 28, 2010. I hired a shipper to deliver her, and it turned out to be the right decision. Roads had been snow-covered and ice packed, but luckily a break in the weather allowed a safe and timely trip.
